Thunder on the Mountain
Coming in 2008! (Current projection is December of 2007)
Excerpt: It was mid afternoon when the two men rode up over a rise and saw the barbed wire fence. It ran both north and south as far as they could see. Clive pushed back his hat and Snuffy shook his head and said, “Wal, now what? Do we go around it to the north or the south, or do we just cut the wire and go through it?”
“I’d not want to be blamed for doing damage to another man’s property,” said Clive.
“This ain’t no man’s property!” shouted Snuffy. “This here land is free and belongs to ever’body! What gives a feller the right to fence off the land from others?”
“Quiet!” said Clive. You’re scarin’ the horses.”
“Wal, I can’t help it!” said Snuffy a little quieter. “A deer or thunder beast run into that stuff and he won’t get free of it.”
“I remember I heard it called ‘The Devil’s Rope’ because of the barbs along the wire. It was meant to keep herds of cattle inside the fence.”
“Maybe so, but seems no thought was given to innocent animals and people who don’t know it’s there. What do we do now?"
